Radical Kindness
"Be Kind"
The 1990s presented some unique challenges for those of us who can remember the decade.
For example, few things were worse than hunkering down in front of the obnoxiously oversized wood-framed family T.V. on a Friday night, popping in the freshly rented Blockbuster movie hit, only to find out that the previous renter ignored the "Be kind, please rewind" rule when turning in the VHS tape.
Kindness continues to be of utmost importance to our culture. After all, our current motto is, "In a world where you can be anything, be kind."
While I am so grateful that this generation cares about kindness, how the word is defined and expressed has strayed pretty far from the type of kindness displayed from the Creator of kind.
As a reminder, over the last 6 months, we've been slowly walking through the fruit of the Holy Spirit of God listed out in Galatians 5: 22-23, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is."
The Bible contains over forty verses that deal with kindness--kindness from God towards us as well as kindness from God's Spirit within us towards each other.
Throughout the month of June I will be exploring many of these verses while navigating the key differences between the "kindness" found in this world, verses the kindness found in God alone.
